About ‘Feminist Thinking’

This blog is predominantly a way of putting my whirlwind of thoughts onto paper. I constantly find myself considering the ways in which marginalised groups are presented in media and literature and the often grave implications of such presentations.

We live in a world in which more that 40% of US films fail the Bechdel Test and 68% of British homosexual couples will avoid holding hands with one another in public “for fear of a negative reaction from others” and the media which relentlessly surrounds has always had a profound impact on social attitudes to minorities. We must therefore, hold said media responsible for persistently promoting and facilitating negative or damaging stereotypes and encourage our media to do better.

One person may not be able to make a difference, but if those under-represented in the media take a stand, we can become an unstoppable torrent to which industries will have no choice but to listen.
